As a euro gamer and fan of "worker-placement" style games, it's probably fair to say that I think this is "the best board game in the world". The game starts with a 2 room wooden house and an empty field in a pre-machinery era. You have 14 rounds to create the best farm possible. If there's something you could think of in real life that you'd do on a farm, this game lets you do it! Build pastures for various animals, plough earth for planting crops, expand your house, expand your family, improve the structure of your house, breed new animals, harvest the crops, buy an oven, manage all your resources, and most importantly, make sure you have enough food to feed your family or else you will be forced to go begging! This game works so well, with a "light" version for when you're getting to grips with the game or fancy less of a headache, or add cards from a (massive!) selection to make each game totally unique and more complex. This game has it all, and is backed up by brilliant pieces and artwork. Although the sheer amount of choices can sometimes give me a headache, I find it a very rewarding and immensely enjoyable game!
